PARADISE

Image
Photo Credit: Sudip Bhattacharya Sitting by the riverside, I deliberate and deliberate, Is there a blank in my life? I hear a laughter; taunting, 'Wondering about a blank at this age'? Fifty long years, Sometimes cheers, Sometimes tears, An abysmal void, A sublime urge, To define the indistinct, A shadow looms In search of the unknown, I aspire. Walking along the bank, Nestled behind the Ivy, Peeping through the doorway, The staircase rise, The shadow looms, I rise. Sharp turns, Twisted steps, Sudden fall, I rise, Excruciating pain, Bleeding wound, Trembling feet, I rise. Stars hide, The moon bids goodbye, I rise, Against the rail, The shadow lies, I rise. Crimson is the sky, Seagulls fly, My Strength dies, I rise. Swept me in his arms, I open my tired lids, His exuberant face, That radiant smile, Telling a tale, 'You are alive, You are mine, Waiting ages,

She is no more....

Justice Leila Seth (India) First Woman Chief Justice of a State High Court She is no more, Her vermillion bindi, In the midst of forehead, Exudes radiance, Reflected from the crystals of depth, Canoeing her way through the river of life, Attains She a feat,  Unlike her times, When women are coerced into submission. The misty morning is no more morbid, Resting her hand on her boy, A beginning she envisage, Flying across the rainbow, Towards the land of justice. Adorning the robe of law, Walks into the domain of men, Unfettered, with fearless acumen, Creates a niche, Imparting judgements, Untainted; truth remains, Crime perishes. Being judgemental she abhors, Preferences are beliefs, Empathises with women's angst, Condemns the violence. She is no more, Her thoughts remain in a stream of words, I sit by the stream, Eager to fly across the rainbow.

KALINGA

Image
Kalinga War Memorial: Stupa at Dhaulagiri                                              Orissa, (India) Wailing in agony,    Gashes wide and deep,    Blood oozing out.    Still warm,    Breathing with effort,    The eyes speak,    'I want to live',    The lashes speak    'I want to sleep'.   Emperor Ashoka,   Conqueror of Kalinga,   On a chariot; witnessing,   Elephants, humans, horses   Making mountains of dead,   A toddler trying to awaken,   A woman lying in silence,   Adorned with armour,   Fought with valour,   But in vain, in vain,   Crying aloud,   Hand towards heaven,   Tears question,   'Where is my mother',   'Where is she, oh! Lord?   Tresses in disarray,   Running wild,   A woman's diatribe,   'Killed my father, husband and son.   Tell me why? Tell me why?'   Pleading with remorse,   In anguish she screams   'How will I live....   How will I...how will I?   Penetrating his heart,  Th

FALL

Image
Photo credit: Sudip Bhattacharya Into nothingness I fall, Cottony clouds embrace me, Sun rays pave the way, Into the lap of mountains. Thread like river calms down, The waves breathe at ease, In harmony is the breeze, Resolute is the mind, I descend and descend, Without fear but with dare. I close my eyes for a second, Amidst blossomed trees, The sages meditate, In silence but in presence, A toll of the bell, A temple at a peak, In heaven, so I believe.

BUD

Image
A doe eyed bud, Prancing with innocent smile, Dreamt She of conquering world, With her prowess of act. Proved her worth amongst many, Glittered She with bling and shine, In the coloured screen day and night, Her laughter evoked joy, Her cries evoked pain, Her tears evoked anger, It was 'action' and 'cut' all the way, Paradise of fame and accolade. Cupid struck and found love, Heaven She felt was her life, Whispered 'Betrayal' in her ears, 'Ditched and ditched will you be in love', With anger She yelled at him, Fell in love not once but twice and thrice, It was 'Betrayal' all the way. Then She fell prey to the noose! Unaware, Life is precious, And there is always a tact beyond love, To defeat 'Betrayal' for his cunning vile.

THE MOON

Image
Photo Credit: Sudip Bhattacharya Only sound it was, Waves travelling, To and fro, All around, When nascent was the earth. The forces of nature unite, The globed Moon came into being, To soothe the earth With her calm demeanour, Embracing with soft light, Singing lullaby, To let the earth breathe In silence and peace. Aeons have passed, Still She is there, Disseminating calmness, Affectionately waiting, Something is amiss! Endless blinking of lights, Amidst honking horns, Belting out hard rock, Her lullaby pause. The windows are bare, No one stares, With joyous wonder, She peeps, Through a chink in the blind, Dotted with screens, Every inch it seems, Not even a careless thought, Time reveals, Lonely She feels, Tears trickle down, Maybe, it's time to leave.
